Job description

Mechanical Fitter – Water / Water Treatment Industry

GRS are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to join our client, working primarily across the water and water treatment sector. This role is focused on reactive maintenance and mechanical installations, with additional involvement in fault‑finding, refurbishment, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all mechanical systems and equipment across various sites.

The Role
  • Carry out mechanical maintenance, repairs, and installations across water treatment and utility sites.
  • Work on pumps, valves, pipework, gearboxes, bearings, motors, and rotating equipment.
  • Conduct strip‑downs, overhauls, and rebuilds of mechanical components.
  • Assist with alignment, commissioning, and testing of mechanical systems.
  • Participate in a 1 in 3 weekend on‑call rota.
  • Flat on‑call allowance.
  • If called out: 4 hours minimum at time and a half.
  • 40‑hour standard working week.
  • Overtime rates: time and a half (Mon–Sat midday), double time (Sat midday onwards & Sundays).
  • Door‑to‑door travel paid.

Requirements
  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • CSCS or EUSR card.
  • Previous experience within the water, utilities, or process industry (e.g. clean water, wastewater, or pumping stations).
  • Knowledge of mechanical maintenance procedures, isolation, and safe systems of work.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Confined Space and DOMS / Water Hygiene tickets (preferred).
