Job summary

Service Service in Norwich is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our established engineering and manufacturing team. You will assemble precision equipment from components to sub-assemblies, interpreting drawings and applying bench-fitting skills to ensure exact fits.

The role requires excellent attention to detail, the ability to work to tight tolerances, and a commitment to high-quality workmanship. Working hours are 37.5 per week with overtime potentially available.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in precision mechanical assembly to tight tolerances.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings accurately.
• Recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical Fitting or related discipline.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out precision mechanical assembly from component level through to complete systems.
• Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and assembly instructions.
• Perform bench fitting using hand tools, powered tools and manual machine tools.
• Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, verniers and slip gauges.

We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter with strong precision mechanical assembly and bench-fitting skills to join an established engineering and manufacturing business.

You’ll assemble precision-engineered equipment, working from individual components through to sub-assemblies and complete systems. The role requires excellent attention to detail, the ability to interpret technical drawings and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality workmanship.

• Carry out precision mechanical assembly from component level through to complete systems.
• Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and assembly instructions.
• Perform bench fitting using hand tools, powered tools and manual machine tools.

Requirements

• Recognised apprenticeship in Mechanical Fitting, Machine Building, Assembly or a similar discipline.
• NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent relevant qualification.
• Proven experience in precision mechanical assembly or a similar fitting role.
• Strong bench-fitting skills and the ability to work accurately to engineering drawings and tight tolerances.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Hours

37.5 hours per week:

• Monday–Thursday: 08:15–17:00
• Friday: 08:15–12:45

Overtime opportunities may be available.
