Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Knottingley is looking for experienced Mechanical Fitters on a self-employed contract basis. The role involves inspection, maintenance, and repair of various mechanical systems within a workshop environment to adhere to safety and performance standards. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and experience working with technical drawings. A preferred qualification is NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering. This role ensures high operational safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

Job description

Logical Personnel is supporting a leading engineering company in West Yorkshire. With work due to start early 2026, we are currently seeking experienced and dedicated Mechanical Fitters to join our skilled team on a self employed contract basis.

Job Role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the inspection, fault diagnosis and maintenance, and repair of various mechanical systems and machinery. You will work within our workshop to ensure that all equipment and machinery are maintained to the highest safety and performance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and overhauls on machinery and associated equipment
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
  • Dismantle, assemble, and install mechanical components and systems
  • Diagnose faults and troubleshoot mechanical issues effectively
  • Ensure all machinery is in good working order and complies with safety regulations
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed and parts used
  • Ensure a safe working environment by following health and safety guidelines at all times
  • Collaborate with other team members to achieve operational goals and improve processes
  • Suggest improvements to maintenance procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and other associated equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and drawings
  • Competent in using hand tools, power tools, and other mechanical fitting equipment
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
  • Good understanding of health and safety standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
  • Previous experience in a workshop environment (preferred)
