Job summary

OA Group is advertising a Mechanical Fitter role in Hitchin, supporting our client’s engineering team within a water treatment equipment facility. You will assemble, fit and test components, read engineering drawings, and ensure quality and safety standards are met in a busy workshop.

The role offers full-time hours, a 40-hour week, with a salary of £27,000 to £29,000, on-site parking, medical insurance and a structured training and progression plan.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical fitting and assembly.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings is beneficial.
• Hands-on experience with hand and power tools is required or advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical assembly and installation of components on industrial water treatment systems.
• Fit, build and align pumps, valves and other components on large machinery.
• Use hand and power tools to complete fitting and assembly work.
• Read engineering drawings to ensure correct assembly and tolerances.
• Provide hands-on support to the wider engineering team in a busy workshop.

Role: Mechanical Fitter

Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm

Salary: £27,000 - £29,000

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for a Mechanical Fitter to join our client's growing engineering team.

Our client is a well-established specialist engineering business with over 40 years of experience within the water treatment industry. They design, manufacture, assemble and test bespoke water treatment systems for a range of commercial and industrial applications.

Duties of a Mechanical Fitter:

• Carry out mechanical assembly and installation of components on industrial water treatment systems.
• Fit, build and align pumps, valves, brackets, gauges and other mechanical components on large industrial machinery.
• Use a range of hand tools and power tools to complete mechanical fitting and assembly work.
• Read and work from engineering drawings and technical information to ensure components are assembled correctly.
• Provide hands-on support to the wider engineering team within a busy workshop environment.
• Maintain a high standard of quality, precision and safety throughout all work.
• Ensure work is completed efficiently and to the required specifications.

What we would like from you:

• Previous mechanical fitting, mechanical assembly or engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience using a range of hand tools and power tools.
• The ability to read and understand engineering drawings would be highly beneficial.
• Experience building, assembling, installing or working on machinery or mechanical systems would be advantageous.
• Candidates with experience fixing, building or assembling machines are encouraged to apply, as this experience can be transferable.
• Experience within industrial machinery, engineering or water treatment would be beneficial but is not essential.
• Familiarity with ABS/PVC-U assemblies would be an advantage.
• A practical, hands-on approach with a strong focus on quality and safety.
• Comfortable working within a dynamic and busy workshop environment.
