Job summary

Red The Consultancy seeks a Mechanical Fitter to join our client in Londonderry on a full-time basis. You will maintain plant and port equipment to ensure safe, efficient port operations, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities include maintaining certifications, logging faults, scheduling planned maintenance, mentoring apprentices, and coordinating with OEMs and service contractors. Out-of-hours or weekend cover may be required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a similar mechanical fitter role.
  • Maintenance and repairs on plant or port equipment.
  • Ability to prioritise planned maintenance activities.
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Able to work outside normal hours when required.
  • Good time management and safety awareness in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain plant and port equipment to high operational standards.
  • Identify hazards and take corrective action in line with safety procedures.
  • Maintain equipment certifications and up-to-date documentation.
  • Log faults in Asset HQ and track defect resolution.
  • Plan and conduct planned maintenance across services, systems, cranes, and equipment.
  • Mentor workshop apprentices and provide safety guidance.
  • Procure parts and manage tools and company vehicles for repairs.
  • Carry out hydraulic and pneumatic work and assist with electrical systems as needed.
  • Provide out-of-hours and weekend engineering cover as directed.

Job description

Our client is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join their team on a full-time basis in Londonderry.

As a Mechanical Fitter you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance of plant and machinery to ensure delivery of safe and efficient Port operations.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Experience carrying out maintenance and repairs on plant or port equipment.
  • Ability to prioritise planned maintenance activities.
  • Experience with Hydraulics and Pneumatics.
  • Flexibility for out of hours/weekend cover.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety with an industrial environment.
  • Must be able to able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Good knowledge of MS packages including Excel and Word and use of CMMS and training platforms.
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Maintain plant and specialist port equipment to the highest operational standards.
  • Identify hazards associated with plant and equipment and take appropriate corrective action
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities in compliance with the Port’s Safe Systems of Work to prevent harm to all personnel and damage to equipment, investigating any query or issue raised in relation to safety.
  • Responsible for maintaining all equipment certifications in line with regulatory standards / relevant codes / statutory requirements and ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Complete and retain necessary documents ensuring records are maintained and updated.
  • Log and resolve fault records with company Asset HQ asset management software system to ensure comprehensive maintenance tracking and defect resolution.
  • Prioritise, schedule and conduct planned maintenance tasks on all services, systems, cranes and equipment within the Port, coordinating with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and service contractors where required.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to workshop apprentices, providing on-the-job training, technical guidance and safety instruction.
  • Manage and maintain tools, materials and company vehicles as required to support maintenance activities, including the procurement of parts and equipment to complete repairs
  • Carry out work involving hydraulics and pneumatics and as required.
  • Provide assistance to other members of the engineering team which will involve working with electrical systems.
  • Provide out of hours and weekend engineering cover as a member of the engineering team as directed.
  • Procure appropriate spare parts or arrange specialist parts repair in order to complete services and repairs.
  • Accountable for personal time management to ensure delivery of an effective and efficient services within the Port that has the flexibility to meet fluctuating work demands.
  • Positively contribute to, implement, monitor, and review adherence to safe systems of work.
  • Positively contribute to risk assessments with support from the Environmental Health and Safety Officer.
  • Use appropriate PPE and carry out mental risk assessments when carrying out tasks to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
  • Work safely at heights.
  • Work safely in confined spaces.
  • Proactively identify and report any non-compliance of regulations and procedures to the relevant departments as soon as possible.
  • Fully implement any corrective actions/lessons learnt following internal investigations, toolbox talk, safety bulletins and team meetings.
  • Undertake regular training programs as required, including e-learning modules.
