Job Description
Established in 2022, Navantia UK is a subsidiary of Navantia SA, a Spanish state-owned company with over 300 years of naval shipbuilding history.
In January 2025, Navantia UK completed the acquisition of Harland & Wolff and its four historic facilities in Belfast, Appledore, Methil, and Arnish.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Dismantle and re‑assemble mechanical assemblies.
- Inspect equipment and identify faulty components.
- Carry out preventative maintenance work on plant and equipment.
- Align equipment to set tolerances.
- Test pipework and systems, commission systems.
- Assist other disciplines when required.
- Experience with overhead cranes and lifting equipment.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.

- Ensure good house‑keeping of work areas at all times.
QUALITY
- Undertake inspection of parts, sub‑assemblies and finished products to ensure dimensional accuracy, quality and solid working function.
- Support the company in maintaining and improving our ISO 9001 (quality), 14001 (environmental), 45001 (health and safety) standards through adherence to the Navantia UK Management Systems; this is the responsibility of all Navantia UK employees when conducting all processes and activities.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Time served mechanical fitter either in a shipyard or similar field activity where refit work was undertaken.
- Relevant qualification, indentured apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds etc.
- Understanding of dimensional control techniques such as Electronic Distance Measuring (EDM).
- Understanding of engineered drawings and technical documents.
- Knowledge and compliance of work place safety.
- Work execution independently according to valid instructions, rules and other standards.
- Flexible cooperation with other team‑members.
Key Interpersonal/Behavioral Skills
- Ability to establish an appropriate course of action for self and/or others to accomplish a goal.
- Effectiveness in identifying possible problems for upward reporting/investigation.
- Ability to express ideas or facts in a clear manner.
- Professional and pro‑active work ethic.
