Job Description
As the Mechanical fitter you will be tasked with the following:
Maintenance & Repair
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery, conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and utilities.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and perform effective breakdown repairs to minimise downtime.
- Replace and refurbish mechanical components such as bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, pumps, and valves.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all work complies with food safety, hygiene, and GMP requirements.
- Adhere to site health & safety policies, including lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure work is completed to audit-ready standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability and performance.
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring faults.
- Assist in engineering improvement projects and equipment upgrades.
Operational Support
- Collaborate closely with the nights hygiene team to ensure smooth operation and reliable start up of production on day shift.
- Provide technical support during product changeovers and start-ups.
- Assist with installation and commissioning of new machinery.
The Successful Applicant
- Relevant qualifications in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Practical experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on efficiency.
- Knowledge of health and safety protocols in an engineering context.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive attitude towards machinery maintenance and improvement.
