Junior Mechanical Estimator – Mechanical Building Services Contractor

£40,000 – £50,000 (reflective of experience) + Company Car or Car Allowance + Benefits Package

About the Company

A respected and steadily growing mechanical building services contractor located on the Hampshire–Dorset border. The company delivers full mechanical design, installation, and commissioning services across commercial, healthcare, and education projects, with project values typically ranging from £100K to £1M.

Well known for their technical quality, practical engineering approach, and long‑standing relationships with main contractors, the business continues to grow and now has an excellent opportunity for a Junior Mechanical Estimator to join the team.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long‑term career in mechanical estimating within the building services / M&E sector. The role offers hands‑on training, ongoing support, and structured progression into a full Mechanical Estimator position.

Ideal backgrounds include :
  • Technical sales (HVAC, M&E suppliers, merchant sales)
  • Purchasing / procurement
  • Mechanical design support
  • Project coordination / project engineering
  • Mechanical or HVAC trades looking for an office‑based role
  • Graduates or junior engineers looking to progress in building services

This is a varied position offering both technical and commercial exposure, making it an ideal development role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing mechanical estimates for heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water systems.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents under guidance.
  • Carry out basic take‑offs (full training provided).
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to gather quotations and technical information.
  • Support early‑stage budgets, cost plans, and design‑and‑build proposals.
  • Contribute to tender submissions, cost summaries, and technical proposals.
  • Maintain accurate tender documentation and organised internal records.
Experience & Background

Applications are welcome from candidates who have one of the following :

  • Experience in M&E or construction sales, purchasing or technical support.
  • A background in mechanical building services, HVAC, plumbing, or similar.
  • Experience in project coordination or project engineering.
  • A relevant mechanical or building services qualification (advantageous but not essential).
  • A strong interest in commercial and estimating work with a willingness to learn.

You do not need prior estimating experience — training will be provided.

  • Motivated, reliable, and eager to learn.
  • Good communicator with strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with numbers and Microsoft Excel.
  • Enjoys a mix of technical and commercial work.
  • Works well within a small, supportive team.
Remuneration Package – Junior Mechanical Estimator
  • £40,000 – £50,000 basic salary (reflective of experience and seniority).
