Job summary

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a motivated individual to join the Estates team, focusing on mechanical and plumbing maintenance across hospital facilities in Watford. You will diagnose faults, repair complex systems, and help maintain safety and service standards.

The role requires completion of an approved apprenticeship or equivalent, and you will contribute to planned preventive maintenance and on-call duties to support patient care.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical services and engineering plant maintenance.
• Ability to work unsupervised and take on-call responsibilities.
• Ability to diagnose faults in mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Willingness to work in a hospital environment and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair faults on complex mechanical services, plant and equipment.
• Carry out repairs and maintenance on heating systems, pumps, compressors and ventilation.
• Carry out statutory inspections and document results.
• Fabricate/repair iron pipework and install new plumbing work as required.
• Work on steam distribution and condensate return systems.
• Respond to on-call emergencies and make on-site decisions to ensure patient safety.
