Job description

STAR-Dundee Ltd. provides spacecraft onboard network technology and electronic test equipment. We are expanding our research & development team and looking for a Mechanical Engineer to develop new products for spacecraft data‑handling and avionics networks.

Job Specification

In this role you will design precision mechanical assemblies for spacecraft electronics and ground test equipment. Working with the Spaceflight Equipment Lead you will:

  • Design precision mechanical assemblies and enclosures for spacecraft electronics and ground test equipment.
  • Create CAD models, detailed drawings and bills of materials.
  • Select components, materials, finishes and manufacturing processes that meet technical, cost and lead‑time requirements.
  • Perform structural, dynamic and thermal analysis using simulation tools.
  • Support prototype builds and production, including hands‑on build, fit‑and‑assembly checks, and iterate design changes.
  • Engage with suppliers for quotations, design‑for‑manufacture discussions and delivery support.
  • Contribute to design reviews and technical decision‑making across disciplines.
  • Support environmental and functional testing (vibration, thermal, vacuum, EMC/EMI).
  • Produce technical documentation such as design documents, drawing packs, technical specifications and test reports.
  • Provide customer technical support and maintain internal processes.
Qualifications
  • 1st‑class BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Alternatively, a HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering with at least three years’ experience in relevant mechanical design.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical component and housing design, CAD, manufacturing processes and production‑ready drawing creation.
  • Experience of thermal, dynamic and structural analysis/simulation.
  • Comfortable taking work through all stages from concept to build.
  • Attention to detail and initiative with limited supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Advantageous Skills
  • PCB layout experience.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9101 or AS 9100 quality management systems.
Location

Dundee, Scotland – the company is located in a renovated town house overlooking the Tay estuary. The role is on‑site.
