Mechanical Engineer

Location: Nottingham

Salary: £29,120 + x1.5 overtime rate & x2 call out rate

Hours: Monday – Friday (40 hours per week) + Call‑out/Overtime as required

Overview

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer on behalf of one of our clients. Our client encourages applications from ex‑military candidates; however, all applicants will be given due consideration.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of gearboxes, electric motors, and pumps within a busy workshop environment. You will ensure that all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, supporting overall workshop performance and customer satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Carry out repair, overhaul, and testing of gearboxes, electric motors, and pumps.
  • Ensure all work is completed to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Complete workshop documentation, job cards, and daily timesheets accurately and on time.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, cleanliness, and organisation in the workshop.
  • Adhere to all company and workshop Health and Safety protocols, including correct use of PPE.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental goals and contribute to a team‑focused environment.
  • Be available for call‑out shifts or overtime as required by the Workshop Manager.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties within your capabilities as directed by the Workshop Manager.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven experience in the repair and maintenance of gearboxes, electric motors, and pumps.
  • Good mechanical understanding and problem‑solving ability.
  • Basic computer literacy (MS Office or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of workshop safety protocols and PPE.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, with strong timekeeping and attention to detail.
  • Flexible and willing to work outside normal hours when required.
