About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support our clients team during a peak production period within their food manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on role involving maintenance, repair, and optimisation of high-speed production and packaging machinery.

You’ll be working alongside a skilled engineering team to ensure smooth operation and minimal downtime of key production lines, including bagging machines, conveyors, and automated filling systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out reactive and planned maintenance on a range of food production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical faults on bagging machines, conveyors, sealers, labellers, and filling systems.
  • Support production during breakdowns to ensure minimal disruption to output.
  • Assist with equipment setup and changeovers for different product runs.
  • Conduct mechanical adjustments, bearing changes, gear replacements, and belt alignments.
  • Ensure all work complies with food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with production staff and other engineers during a high-paced seasonal period.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer or Maintenance Engineer within the food manufacturing or FMCG sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of bagging machines, conveyors, pneumatic systems, and packaging machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance and continuous improvement practices.
  • Relevant mechanical engineering qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 3, ONC/HNC, or equivalent).
  • Flexibility to work overtime and occasional weekends during peak demand.
