Role Overview

Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) is expanding its South region MEP design team. A focused and reliable Mechanical Engineer will support delivery of mechanical building services design. Contribute to projects, work with senior engineers, multidisciplinary colleagues, and clients to deliver robust, coordinated, compliant design solutions.

Responsibilities include delivering day‑to‑day mechanical engineering design on live projects, from feasibility through to detailed design and construction. Produce calculations, coordinate mechanical systems with other disciplines and develop technical drawings and specifications that meet project requirements.

Role Responsibilities
  • Undertake mechanical engineering design for building services projects, including heating, ventilation, cooling, and domestic water systems
  • Prepare and check calculations, drawings and specifications for concept, developed and technical design stages
  • Coordinate mechanical services with other disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, sustainability)
  • Work closely with project leads and senior engineers to ensure technical compliance and quality assurance
  • Support the development of design packages for tender and construction, including responding to contractor queries
  • Contribute to internal technical reviews and team knowledge sharing
  • Use tools such as IES, AutoCAD, and Revit to develop coordinated and accurate design outputs
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will deliver customer service excellence, demonstrate a positive proactive approach to the role with good commercial results and possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Demonstrable experience in delivering mechanical designs within a consultancy or design‑and‑build environment
  • Strong technical skills and familiarity with design tools (e.g. IES, Revit, AutoCAD)
  • Good understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guides, and industry standards
  • Organised, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple deadlines
  • Collaborative approach and willingness to learn from experienced team members
Qualifications
  • Degree‑qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
  • Ideally working towards professional registration (CIBSE or IMechE)
Experience
  • Track record in a similar role
  • Project design responsibility from feasibility through to detailed design and construction
  • Use of relevant MS and design software
