The Role

My client, a leading global producer of specialty chemicals, polymer additives and precursors, is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their team.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of mechanical systems within a top-tier COMAH chemical plant. This role involves managing mechanical-biased projects, providing technical support, participating in process safety initiatives, and carrying out engineering design, all while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee mechanical-biased projects from initiation to completion.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on mechanical aspects of projects.
  • Conduct engineering design for mechanical systems and components.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies, procedures, and methods.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs) to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support plant operations and improvement projects.
  • Manage and oversee contractors and vendors for mechanical work.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
  • Participate in safety audits and risk assessments.
  • Implement recommendations from HAZOP studies to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Take ownership of escalated maintenance issues, carrying out trouble shooting and developing technical solutions to safety, process, and reliability issues.
  • Feed into maintenance and shutdown planning.
  • Plan, execute, and manage mechanical-biased projects ensuring they meet safety, quality, and budgetary requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for mechanical-related projects.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met on time.
  • Carry out detailed engineering design for mechanical systems and components.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Develop and review technical drawings, specifications, and documentation.
The Candidate
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Proven engineering and maintenance experience in a chemical, pharmaceutical, or petrochemical plant, particularly on a COMAH site.
