Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Location: Barnsley

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 7:15am to 5:00pm | Friday – 7:15am to 3:00pm

Salary: £35,000 per annum

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and modification of plant and machinery across the site. This is a hands‑on role that plays a key part in keeping operations running efficiently and safely. You will ensure that all maintenance and repair work is carried out in line with business requirements and Health & Safety compliance, while maintaining accurate documentation for audit and warranty purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out maintenance, repair, and modifications to plant and machinery.
  • Record all repairs and alterations in line with business and H&S standards.
  • Adhere to and document a full schedule of preventative maintenance.
  • Attend and oversee annual third‑party machinery servicing and sign off.
  • Follow the company’s schedule of works card and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records for ISO audits and compliance.
  • Manage stock levels for parts and submit monthly expenditure reports to management.
  • Undertake fabrication work and general site maintenance.
  • Support future engineering projects within the group.
  • Communicate effectively with managers and team members.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely, professionally, and efficiently.
Machinery Includes

Cross‑cut and band saws, CNC machines, wire stripping machines, dust extraction systems, shredders, small forklifts (FLT), vehicles, and general site maintenance equipment.

Key Skills & Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent qualification/experience).
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Fabrication and welding experience.
  • Proven record of maintaining and servicing a variety of industrial machinery.
