Job summary

IC Talent is supporting an established UK manufacturing business in Epping to recruit an experienced Mechanical Engineer for a hands-on role in maintenance and manual machining. The role combines maintenance, fault finding, and machining to keep production equipment running efficiently.

The successful candidate will have strong mechanical maintenance skills, be comfortable operating manual lathes and milling machines, and support improvements in safety and reliability across the site.

Qualifications

• A recognised engineering qualification such as City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent.
• Experience working within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
• Experience operating manual lathes.
• Experience operating manual milling machines.
• Good understanding of preventative maintenance systems.
• Experience with pneumatic systems.
• Experience with hydraulic systems.
• Basic understanding of electrical circuits and controls.
• Exposure to PLCs and variable-speed drives would be beneficial.
• Ability to diagnose problems and work independently.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to prioritise effectively in a production environment.
• Previous experience within manufacturing, production, FMCG or a similar industrial environment would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Respond to mechanical breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
• Carry out planned and preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
• Diagnose faults and identify root causes of equipment failures.
• Test and prove machinery following maintenance and repair work.
• Maintain and update planned preventative maintenance schedules.
• Identify and maintain appropriate engineering spare parts.
• Manufacture, repair and modify mechanical components where required.
• Set and operate manual centre lathes.
• Set and operate vertical milling machines.
• Select appropriate tooling and machining methods.
• Work accurately to required dimensions and tolerances.
• Support continuous improvement activities within the engineering function.
• Work with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Support fault finding involving electrical controls, PLCs and drives.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety throughout all engineering activities.

IC Talent is supporting an established UK manufacturing business with the appointment of an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join its engineering and maintenance team in Epping.

This is a hands‑on engineering position combining mechanical maintenance, fault finding, planned maintenance and manual machining.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining production equipment, responding to breakdowns and manufacturing or modifying components using manual lathes and milling machines.

The role would suit an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Fitter, Toolroom Engineer or Manual Machinist looking for a varied position within a busy manufacturing environment.
