Job summary

HDR is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in the United Kingdom to join the Building Engineering Services Group. You’ll design and specify mechanical systems for data centres and commercial projects, taking concepts through to detailed designs.

You’ll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, maintain client relationships, and ensure QA standards (ISO9001/ISO14001). The role offers growth within an employee-owned environment and exposure to high-profile infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering or building services.
• Experience designing mechanical systems for commercial/infrastructure projects.
• Design coordination with stakeholders and disciplines.
• Experience with HVAC, cooling, ventilation, and resilience systems.
• Familiarity with CAD and design analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Agree design duties with Project Manager and Office Principal/Team Leaders.
• Carry out engineering concept design through to detailed design.
• Liaise with the design team to co-ordinate detailed designs and agree manufacturers and samples.
• Maintain good client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
• Assist colleagues with identifying and implementing CPD requirements and help develop working practices in the Company.
• Implement and manage tasks in accordance with QA systems and ISO9001/ISO14001 procedures.
• Assist with CAD resource requirements.

About You

We are looking for someone who is personable self-starter with the ability to project a positive “can do” professional attitude at all times maintaining good working relationships. Someone who enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines being able to establish excellent working rapport within the team, business and with clients, with the ability to work under pressure, handle a varied workload and keep to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the highest level of technical excellence.

Responsibilities

In the role of Mechanical Engineer, we’ll count on you to:

• Agree design duties with your Project Manager and Office Principal / Team Leaders.
• Carry out engineering concept design through to detailed design
• Liaise with the design team to co-ordinate detailed designs and agree manufacturers and samples.
• Maintain good client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
• Assist colleagues with identifying and implementing your personal training/CPD requirements. Help develop working practices in the Company.
• Implement and manage tasks in accordance with QA systems and company procedures on all projects (our systems are certified to ISO9001 and ISO14001).
• Assist with CAD resource requirements.

Skills and Experience

• BEng, MSc or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or relevant subject
• Experience in mechanical design for commercial and infrastructure projects, minimum 3yrs’ industry experience.
• Design Coordination with other stakeholders & disciplines
• Experience of mechanical systems, HVAC engineering and multiples levels of resilience including cooling, ventilation, humidification, fuel oil and flue systems.
• Large scale chilled water and adiabatic cooling systems experience.
• Good knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software.
• Skills in project managing on-going jobs with limited supervision are desirable.

Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint.
