Job summary

Chemify Ltd in Glasgow is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design and develop the mechanical systems of our robotic synthesis platform, including fluidics, motion assemblies, enclosures, and instrument modules. You will take designs from concept to production, producing detailed CAD models, drawings, prototyping, and testing while collaborating with electronics and firmware teams.

This role offers the chance to shape high-throughput chemistry infrastructure at a Series B deep-tech

Qualifications

• Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally for precision electromechanical or robotic hardware.
• Strong CAD skills (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) and detailed drawing / GD&T experience.
• Sound grasp of mechanisms, materials, tolerancing, and design-for-manufacture.
• Hands-on prototyping and testing experience.
• Close collaboration with electronics, firmware, and manufacturing engineers.

• Design mechanical assemblies and components — motion systems, fluidics, fixtures, and enclosures — from concept to production.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and tolerance analyses.
• Prototype, test, and iterate hardware, validating designs against real-world performance.
• Partner with electronics and firmware engineers on integrated electromechanical modules.
• Work with manufacturing and supply chain on design-for-manufacture, materials, and component selection.
• Contribute to design reviews and the team’s mechanical standards.

The Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop the mechanical systems that make up our robotic synthesis platform — the fluidic handling, motion assemblies, enclosures, and instrument modules that physically carry out chemistry. You will take designs from concept through detailed CAD, prototyping, and testing into production, working closely with electronics, firmware, and manufacturing engineers.

  You are a hands‑on mechanical engineer who enjoys taking a design from sketch to working hardware. You sweat the details — tolerances, materials, manufacturability — and you like seeing your parts come together and move in the real world.

  We expect you to bring:

• Proven experiencein mechanical design engineering, ideally for precision electromechanical or robotic hardware.
• Strong CAD skills (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar) and detailed drawing / GD&T experience.
• Sound grasp of mechanisms, materials, tolerancing, and design‑for‑manufacture.

  Beneficial Skills

• Experience with fluidics, pumps, valves, or motion systems.
• Exposure to lab instrumentation, robotics, or automation hardware.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, 3D printing).
• FEA or tolerance‑stack analysis.
