Mechanical Engineer

Location: St Pauls

Salary: £45,000

Hours: Monday - Friday, alternating shifts (07:00-16:00 / 09:00-18:00)

Call-Out: Required on rota

Alice Rose Recruitment is seeking an experienced Maintenance Multi‑Skilled Engineer to join the maintenance team on a prestigious commercial site in the heart of London. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a professional engineering team responsible for delivering high standards of maintenance and reliability across all building systems.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both electrical and mechanical maintenance, with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of all critical building services while maintaining compliance with statutory and Health & Safety requirements.

Mechanical Engineer Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the on‑site team and client representatives to deliver a high‑quality maintenance service
  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across all M&E systems
  • Inspect facilities regularly to identify issues and necessary maintenance actions
  • Provide hands‑on support across both electrical and mechanical disciplines
  • Complete modifications, small works, and installations when required
  • Ensure all plant and equipment operate at optimum performance levels
  • Issue and manage permits to work under the site’s safe system of work
  • Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and external partners as required
  • Comply with statutory and company Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Manage stock levels, order materials, and maintain accurate logbooks and records
Mechanical Engineer Requirements
  • Recognised qualification in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (City & Guilds Level 3 / NVQ or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in commercial building services maintenance
  • Strong understanding of M&E plant such as AHUs, FCUs, pumps, pressurisation units, and lighting systems
  • Ability to manage both proactive and reactive maintenance efficiently
  • Flexible approach to working hours – occasional out‑of‑hours work required
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Must be confident issuing and managing permits within a safe system of work
