Job summary

Thames Water is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Technician to support Waste Water operations in the Thames Valley North region, including Aylesbury. You will inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install, modify and repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment to keep sites operational.

With 38-hour weeks and potential overtime, the role offers a competitive salary up to £45,000, plus standby payments and a range of benefits.

Qualifications

  • Proven mechanical and electrical knowledge with maintenance experience.
  • Apprenticeship or formal electrical training with recognised qualifications.
  • Able to diagnose and repair plant and electrical equipment safely.

Job description

Based in Aylesbury, the Mechanical & Electrical Technician supports Thames Water’s waste water operations across the Thames Valley North region. Working full time, the post-holder inspects, maintains, fault-finds, tests, installs, modifies and repairs mechanical plant alongside associated electrical equipment. Tasks must be completed safely, efficiently and with minimal supervision, keeping sites operational for customers. Applicants need proven mechanical and electrical knowledge, diagnostic ability and relevant maintenance experience. The salary reaches £45,000 annually, dependent on skills and experience. This position offers the chance to reduce pollution and improve environmental outcomes.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Waste Water team in the Thames Valley North area (including Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Marlow and Oxford). As a successful candidate, you will be using your mechanical & electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefits of our customers. What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician

Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns. You will investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents. You will be expected to provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required. Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSDs, automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment. Participate in a standby rota following the relevant training.

Base Location

Your base location will be one of the following based on proximity to your home address: Aylesbury (HP19 8RT), Little Marlow STW (SL7 3SB), Oxford (OX4 4XU).

Working Pattern

38 Hours, Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training. All PPE, tools, a company van and a fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role

You must have previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in Electrical engineering with an up skill in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial. A valid driving license is essential, and all necessary equipment, such as the vehicle and tools, are provided. Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial. The work will require physical fitness, as you will work in confined spaces with the successful completion of the appropriate training.
