Job summary

The Metropolitan Police in London is seeking a Mechanical Development Engineer to join the Electronics System Development (ESD) team in Southwark. You will work on bespoke electronic, mechanical and IT solutions, delivering full lifecycle mechanical design and miniaturisation.

You will prototype, test, and iterate designs, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with suppliers. The role offers access to state-of-the-art lab equipment and opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge police

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering with strong technical fundamentals.
• Strong mechanical design and development capabilities required.
• 3–5 years' proven experience in mechanical design and development.
• Experience in line management or mentoring staff is desirable.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical design of parts, assemblies and systems integrating electronic components.
• Prototype, assemble, test and iterate designs.
• Use 3D CAD and software like Corel Draw for graphic design.
• Operate rapid prototyping and workshop equipment.
• Generate manufacturing drawings and assembly packs.
• Capture requirements and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Liaise with external suppliers and manufacturers.
