Job description
Company Overview

Our client is a dynamic manufacturing company, located in Taunton, specialising in delivering innovative, cost‑effective solutions from concept through to completion. The organisation operates in a precision engineering environment where designs must meet cost, safety, regulatory and assembly constraints, and the team is committed to driving both quality and efficiency in all projects.

The Role

We are seeking a capable and motivated Design Engineer to join the team and help deliver robust engineering solutions that meet performance, safety and cost requirements. In this role you will take design projects from initial concept through simulation, documentation and manufacturing readiness, ensure designs comply with industry standards and client specifications, lead workflows and project teams, and drive continuous improvement based on data‑driven analysis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a design engineer who thrives on end‑to‑end ownership, enjoys problem‑solving, and is comfortable working to tight timelines and budgets in a manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engineering‑led design solutions from concept right through to completion.
  • Ensure designs meet cost targets, assembly and manufacturability requirements, safety and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Perform calculations and simulations to analyse performance, efficiency and safety; use the resulting data to drive design improvements.
  • Lead design projects, manage workflow, budgets and timelines, and sometimes direct project teams to achieve deliverables.
  • Provide strong problem‑solving and project‑management support to ensure on‑time delivery.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations and client specifications.
  • Prepare and supply technical reports, documentation and hand‑over packages to support manufacture and assembly.
Candidate Profile
Essential
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical design or engineering in a manufacturing or product‑development environment.
  • Proven ability to take designs from concept through to manufacturing release.
  • Skilled in performing engineering simulations and calculations for performance, safety or efficiency assessment.
  • Strong knowledge of design standards, regulatory and safety compliance, and assembly/manufacturability issues.
  • Excellent project management, workflow oversight and budget control capabilities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; able to produce technical documentation and reports.
  • UK work authorisation (required).
Desirable
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing company with end‑to‑end product development.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and safety standards relevant to manufactured products.
  • Experience with design tools/simulations and working across design, manufacturing and quality functions.
What’s On Offer
  • Competitive salary starting from £50,000 per year.
  • Supportive and growing engineering culture, with opportunity for ownership of important design projects.
  • On‑site parking.
  • Company pension scheme.
