Job summary

Gattaca is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Fareham to develop autonomous surface vessels. You will design mechanical systems, create 3D CAD models, and validate designs with FEA while collaborating closely with manufacturing and external partners.

The role offers ownership across the full product lifecycle and opportunities to work on cutting-edge unmanned maritime technology in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience designing complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Experience performing structural analysis, FEA and design validation.
• Knowledge of DFMA, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience working on marine, autonomous, robotic, aerospace, defence or vehicle systems.
• Exposure to prototype development, testing and production environments.
• Interest in uncrewed systems and autonomous technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems for autonomous surface vessels.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models and drawings.
• Apply DFMA principles to material selection and manufacturing.
• Conduct structural analysis, FEA and validation.
• Support prototyping, testing and production activities.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers for cost-effective solutions.
• Identify and resolve technical issues across the product lifecycle.
• Research emerging technologies and materials for continuous improvement.
