Job summary

s1jobs is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer in Glasgow to join a growing engineering environment with varied responsibilities beyond CAD. You will take designs from concept through manufacture, supporting production and engineering activities, tooling development and customer communications.

The role involves improving manufacturing methods, creating documentation, and ensuring designs are robust for manufacture and assembly, with close collaboration to resolve technical issues

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical design experience
• Proficient with 3D CAD and 2D drawings
• Experience checking drawings and engineering documentation
• Solid understanding of tolerancing and design for manufacture
• Experience designing tooling, jigs or fixtures
• Ability to work with manufacturing/production teams
• Problem-solving mindset with production handover
• Strong attention to detail and communication with customers

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs from concept to finished solution
• Produce and review 3D CAD models and 2D drawings
• Conduct drawing checks to ensure manufacturability
• Apply tolerancing principles and DFMA
• Design jigs, fixtures and bespoke tooling
• Create manufacturing documentation and work instructions
• Identify manufacturing improvements and efficiency gains
• Collaborate with production and other engineering teams
• Support prototype and transition from design to manufacture
• Communicate with customers when required
• Coordinate engineering activities to meet project milestones
• Assist with implementing engineering processes
