Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Location: Walsall

Due to the nature of the work, this position is only open to British nationals eligible for UK security clearance.

A well‑established engineering manufacturer with a strong reputation for quality and innovation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing design team. The company specialises in the design and manufacture of complex fabricated equipment used across a range of heavy industries, including energy, power generation, and process sectors.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to technically challenging projects and play a key role in the ongoing development of bespoke pressure‑related equipment and systems.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop pressure vessels, pressure pipework, and heat exchangers to relevant standards.
  • Produce detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Carry out design calculations, stress analysis, and material selection to ensure compliance and performance.
  • Review existing designs for improvements in cost, manufacturability, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure all design requirements are fully met.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date design documentation in line with project and quality requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.
Skills and Experience Required
  • Degree‑qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related discipline).
  • Proven experience in the design of pressure vessels and pipework.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or AutoCAD preferred).
  • Skilled in stress analysis.
