Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Bridgwater, Taunton, Ilminster, Yeovil, Chard, Tiverton, Minehead

Salary: £50,000 + company benefits

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a forward‑thinking and innovative engineering business. This is a varied and rewarding role that involves designing and developing mechanical systems, assemblies, and machinery to meet customer and project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D models using Inventor and 2D technical drawings using AutoCAD.
• Develop mechanical designs from concept through to production, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and safety regulations.
• Produce bills of materials, technical documentation, and design calculations.
• Work closely with production, electrical, and controls engineers to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Participate in design reviews, providing input on functionality, manufacturability, and cost‑effectiveness.
• Support prototype builds and testing, resolving design issues and implementing improvements.
• Ensure all designs adhere to British, European, and International standards.

Requirements

• Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within an automation, machinery, or manufacturing environment.
• Proficient in 3D design using Inventor and 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently as well as part of a team.
