Wallace Hind Selection LTD is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer to work on R&D projects from concept through to completion, with hands-on involvement on the shop floor, production and testing.
Based in Bedford, you will design machinery for FMCG sectors, collaborating with a small, supportive team to deliver robust, cost-conscious solutions from cradle to grave. This role blends design with practical engineering and occasional field testing.
You're a Mechanical Engineer first and a Design Engineer second. As our Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll work on R&D projects from concept through to completion, not just in the design office but hands-on with production and machinery testing. You don't want to just sit in front of a computer; you want to broaden your horizons in a smaller business where you can make a real difference. Based in Bedford, we develop special purpose converting machinery for a variety of industry sectors.

Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer - Machinery, Industrial, R&D
Reporting to our Engineering Manager, as our Mechanical Design Engineer you'll be involved from a variety of projects from the get-go. Our projects can range from machinery modifications right through to blank page concept.
Rather than just being confined to a design office, you'll be encouraged to be customer-facing, building on your project experience and working closely with the team on the shop floor in production and test.
Projects will vary from NPD to reengineering solutions, low batch, high volume and next generation innovation. You will need the ability to juggle several projects at different stages, which will challenge you as a Mechanical Design Engineer. Innovation and quality are at the core of what we do here.
As our Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be working on several projects at any one time (2-3), at different stages with different engineering challenges.
Your main duties will include:
You'll be an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer educated to likely have an HND or B.ENG in Mechanical Engineering.
You will also have experience of some or all the following:
A privately owned, UK manufacturer of special purpose machinery servicing the FMCG sectors.
It is highly likely you will have worked in any of the following roles and/or markets, and worked with the following products and/or services: Mechanical Design, Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Equipment, Tooling, Industrial, Converting, Rewinding, Spooling, Hydraulics, SolidWorks, DfMA, DFMAE, FEA, DFM, DFA
