Job Description:

Fortress Recruit is supporting a leading engineering organisation in their search for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their specialist team based in Dorset.

This role offers the chance to be involved across the full product lifecycle, shaping early design concepts through to supporting manufacturing, testing, and certification. You’ll be creating innovative, high-performance solutions for demanding environments, while developing your skills in a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Turning concepts into high-quality mechanical designs and documentation that support real-world performance.
  • Playing a key role in testing, validation, and reviews to ensure designs meet demanding standards throughout the lifecycle.
  • Acting as a technical point of contact across teams and with external partners, ensuring smooth collaboration.
  • Evaluating materials and manufacturing approaches, and contributing to certification and compliance activities.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 3-5 years’ proven experience in mechanical design with experience delivering projects from concept through to production.
  • A recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering (Degree or equivalent)
  • An understanding of how materials, thermal factors, and motion systems influence robust product design.
  • Awareness of industry standards and compliance requirements, with the ability to apply them effectively in real projects.
  • Eligibility to gain security clearance (5 years residency in the UK without sponsorship requirement)
