Job summary

Major Energy Onshore in Gateshead is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to create enclosure designs, generate 3D CAD models, and produce manufacturing drawings for operations teams.

You will work in a small design team on new and existing product ranges, manage BOMs via the MRP system, run design reviews to speed up product introduction, and ensure cost-effective, manufacturable solutions.

Qualifications

• HNC in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
• Experience in mechanical design of enclosures, fabrications and assemblies.
• Strong 3D CAD skills and ability to translate 3D data into 2D drawings and standardise formats.
• Good communication across departments and ability to work with minimal supervision; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design enclosures and create 3D mechanical designs and provide manufacturing drawings to operations teams.
• Use the MRP system to create accurate BOMs and monitor progress through design reviews to speed up product introduction and reduce design change costs.

Job description

A Mechanical Design Engineer with good 3D CAD skills is needed to work for a busy manufacturing company in the Gateshead area

YOUR NEW JOB

Working in a small design team you will design enclosures and use the MRP system to create accurate BOM's. You will be working on both new and existing product ranges and creating 3D mechanical designs and providing all manufacturing drawings to the operations teams. You will also monitor the progress of all undertaken mechanical design by holding regular design reviews with the aim to speed up product introduction and reduce design change costs. You will also ensure mechanical design solutions are viable and cost effective, utilising all available manufacturing methods

KEY SKILLS

The ideal candidate will have a HNC in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline and experience of mechanical design of enclosures, fabrications and assemblies. You will need good 3D CAD skills (CREO, Inventor, Solidworks etc) and be able to transfer 3D CAD data into 2D drawing packs and standardise the formats.

You will need to be adaptable, be able to communicate well across departments and work with minimum supervision to agreed timescales. You will have an innovative approach to mechanical design, demonstrate good mechanical engineering knowledge, have good attention to detail and ability to complete fully assigned tasks.
