Job summary

Dalkia UK is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical design across decarbonisation and energy infrastructure projects. You will manage external consultants through the RIBA design stages and deliver robust, buildable solutions for live operational environments.

The role is hybrid and supports hospitals, universities and commercial sites, with a focus on energy performance, resilience and sustainability while minimising disruption on site.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3–5+ years in mechanical building services or energy infrastructure design.
• Experience designing major plant, heating and cooling systems.
• Strong knowledge of the RIBA design process.
• Passion for engineering excellence and net-zero solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems and take ownership of the project deliverables.
• Manage external consultants through RIBA stages.
• Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
• Deliver buildable, energy-efficient solutions within live sites.

At Dalkia UK, we're delivering some of the UK's most exciting decarbonisation and energy infrastructure projects, helping hospitals, universities, commercial and industrial clients transition to a more sustainable future.

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team, taking ownership of mechanical design, managing external consultants through the RIBA design stages, and delivering technically robust solutions across complex live operational environments.

You'll work on a diverse portfolio of projects including:

• Energy Centres
• Air Source & Ground Source Heat Pump installations
• Combined Heat & Power (CHP) schemes
• Boiler and Chiller replacements
• District Heating Networks
• Steam, LTHW, MTHW & HTHW systems
• Chilled Water Systems
• Domestic Hot & Cold Water Services
• Plant Rooms & Pumping Systems
• HVAC & Air Handling Systems
• HV/LV Electrical Infrastructure
• Standby Generation, UPS & Battery Storage
• Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Large-scale retrofit and decarbonisation programmes

You'll collaborate with project managers, commercial teams and multidisciplinary engineering specialists to develop innovative, buildable designs that improve energy performance, resilience and sustainability while minimising disruption within live operational sites.

We're looking for someone with:

A Mechanical Engineering degree
3–5+ years' experience in mechanical building services or energy infrastructure design
Experience designing major plant, heating and cooling systems
Strong knowledge of the RIBA design process
A passion for engineering excellence and delivering net-zero solutions
