Overview

Mechanical Design Engineer – Location: Bury; Type: Permanent; Onsite: Hybrid / as required; Salary: Competitive

VIQU IT have partnered with a leading organisation specialising in HVAC and specialist ventilation systems for safety–critical facilities. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of mechanical design projects, drive innovation in HVAC systems, and work closely with senior engineering leadership.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll design and develop HVAC systems for various building types, ensuring they are energy–efficient, sustainable, and compliant with relevant codes and standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, and equipment layout.
  • Performing heating and cooling load calculations using industry–standard software.
  • Selecting HVAC equipment and preparing technical specifications.
  • Developing detailed design drawings and documentation using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar tools.
  • Ensuring compliance with building codes and energy regulations.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conducting site visits for inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Preparing cost estimates and supporting procurement processes.
  • Integrating sustainable and energy–efficient design practices.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., Hevacomp).
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and BIM workflows.
  • Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (CIBSE, BS EN).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem–solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in Energy, Defence, Transport, or similar sectors is desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it and CIBSE membership are a plus.
