The Role

Permanent | Full-time | Monday-Thursday 08.00 to 17.00, Friday 08.00 to 14.00

We're working with a forward-thinking engineering business that designs and builds bespoke automation systems and special-purpose machinery. They are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of customer projects from concept through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop new and existing components/products for automation machinery


• Conceptualise and detail new automation solutions


• Produce site layouts and Bills of Materials (BoMs) for all designs


• Manage projects from conception, design, build, and delivery to ensure client satisfaction


• Liaise with customers and suppliers to understand requirements and provide solutions


• Ensure all designs meet high-quality standards and deadlines


• Collaborate with internal teams

About You

• Strong background in industrial automation and special-purpose machinery (bespoke machines, conveyors, complex sub-assemblies)


• Proficient in 3D CAD software, particularly Autodesk Inventor and/or Fusion 360


• Knowledge of manufacturing industries and processes


• Experienced in project management and end-to-end project ownership


• Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail


• Self-starter with an inquisitive mind and ability to work autonomously


• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent experience (minimum 3 years as CAD Draughtsman)
