Job summary

Platform Recruitment is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for a well-established product development company in South Cambridgeshire. You will lead the transfer of R&D concepts to manufacturable electro-mechanical products and support factory testing.

You will collaborate with electronics, software and systems teams, delivering designs that are robust for manufacture, optimized for DFMA, and supported by prototypes, tests and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Strong background in developing electro-mechanical systems.
• Experience taking a product from design to manufacture.
• Experience designing tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
• Proficient in DFx methods (DFM/DFMA) and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Take R&D concepts to a manufacturable product
• Ensure designs are optimised for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFMA)
• Lead factory acceptance testing
• Build and test prototypes
• Work closely with a cross-functional R&D team across electronics, software, and systems
• Participate in design reviews, problem-solving sessions and continuous improvement initiatives

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established and innovative product development company. The company specialises in the design and development of electro-mechanical scientific instrumentation, taking products from initial concept through to full-scale production.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team, leading the transfer of R&D concepts through to manufacturable products as well as factory testing activities. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a real impact by working on cutting-edge R&D projects and optimising concepts for seamless manufacturing.
