Acorn by Synergie in Exeter is recruiting an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established design team within a successful manufacturing business.

You will work on new product development, mechanical design, product improvement, and design optimisation, taking projects from concept through production release.

Collaboration with design, manufacturing and operations is essential, with a focus on quality, manufacturability, and delivering practical engineering solutions.

Qualifications

• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
• Experience using 3D CAD software in manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
• Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and processes.
• Ability to produce detailed engineering drawings and specs.
• Understanding tolerances and practical product design considerations.
• Strong problem-solving skills and methodical engineering approach.
• Excellent organisation and attention to detail in quality-focused env.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed mechanical designs and technical drawings for new and existing products.
• Support new product development from initial concept through to production release.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve product performance, quality and efficiency.
• Produce engineering documentation and technical specifications to support production activities.
• Identify opportunities for mechanical design optimisation and continuous improvement.
• Develop practical and commercially viable engineering solutions within a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and associated manufacturing processes.

Experience producing detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Understanding of engineering tolerances and practical product design considerations.

Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to technical challenges.

Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Experience working on new product introduction projects.

Familiarity with Solid Edge.

Exposure to risk-based design methodologies and product validation processes.

Experience working within a quality-focused manufacturing environment.

Understanding of production, purchasing, or supply chain interactions within manufacturing.
