Job summary

Bennett and Game Recruitment Ltd in Derby is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design bespoke conveyor systems and special-purpose machinery. The role involves 3D CAD modeling, detailed drawings, and BOM management within a hands-on engineering team.

Qualifications

• Experience designing conveyors, special-purpose machinery or similar equipment.
• Approximately 5+ years in mechanical design; graduates considered.
• Experience with conveyors and machinery is advantageous.
• Autodesk Inventor preferred; SolidWorks or other CAD considered.
• Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related field advantageous.
• Must be within commuting distance of Derby.

Responsibilities

• Design bespoke conveyors and related machinery with Autodesk Inventor.
• Develop mechanical designs with moving parts and assemblies.
• Produce 3D CAD models and detailed drawings using Inventor.
• Create layouts and General Arrangement drawings from specs.
• Develop new concepts and engineering solutions for bespoke apps.
• Support projects through the design lifecycle to manufacture and assembly.
• Produce and maintain Bills of Materials for equipment.

Position: Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: 28,000 - 42,000, depending on experience

Location: Derby

Mechanical Design Engineer required. Our client is a well-established manufacturer of material handling systems for the food industry, seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team based in Derby.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to become involved in the design and development of bespoke handling systems and special-purpose machinery. The successful candidate will ideally have experience designing mechanical equipment incorporating moving parts, mechanisms and assemblies, although applications will also be considered from graduate and junior engineers looking to develop their career within machinery design.

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Overview

• Designing bespoke conveyor systems and associated special-purpose machinery with the use of Autodesk Inventor
• Developing mechanical designs incorporating moving parts, mechanisms, fabricated components and mechanical assemblies.
• Producing 3D CAD models, assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings, primarily using Autodesk Inventor.
• Creating product layouts and General Arrangement drawings based on customer specifications and project requirements.
• Developing new concepts and practical engineering solutions for bespoke customer applications.
• Supporting projects throughout the design lifecycle, from initial concept and development through to manufacture and assembly.
• Producing and maintaining Bills of Materials for machinery and equipment.

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Requirements

• Previous mechanical design experience, ideally involving machinery, moving parts, mechanisms and mechanical assemblies.
• Around 5+ years' experience within mechanical design would be highly advantageous, although graduate and less experienced candidates will also be considered.
• Experience designing conveyors, special-purpose machinery or similar mechanical equipment would be advantageous.
• Experience using Autodesk Inventor is preferable but not essential, with experience using SolidWorks or other 3D CAD packages also considered.
• Degree, HNC, HND or similar qualification within Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous.
• Based within a commutable distance of Derby.

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Remuneration

• Salary: 28,000 - 42,000 per annum, depending on experience.
• Full-time, permanent position.
• Monday to Friday working week.
