Job summary

A leading Engineering firm is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in the City of Edinburgh. This office-based role involves developing mechanical designs, conducting site surveys, and ensuring compliance with building regulations. Ideal candidates will possess substantial experience in Mechanical Engineering building services and a relevant degree. Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in the Mechanical Engineering building services for construction.
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, IS & EN Irish, UK standards or ASHRAE.
  • Working knowledge of design software such as Hevacomp, Carrier HAP, CyMap, IES/TAS required.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Designing in conjunction with fire strategy reports, local building regulations & planning authority requirements.
  • Carrying out site surveys of existing installations where applicable.
  • Producing heating/cooling (thermal modelling) and ventilation load calculations using industry software.
  • Sizing and selection of AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHP, boilers, plate heat exchangers.
  • Producing above ground drainage calculations and sizing of drainage systems.
  • Sizing and selection of domestic hot and cold-water equipment.
  • Producing pipe and duct sizing calculations using industry software.
  • Sizing and selection of firefighting sprinkler and pumping systems.
  • Producing stage reports & presentations.
  • Preparing Designers Risk Assessment and Mitigation Reports.
  • Detailing mechanical layouts & schematics for build.
  • Production of detailed design and survey reports.

Job Description

Due to continued growth, we are now looking to hire an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer in Wolverhampton.

You will be joining an experienced team in a predominantly office-based role and be responsible for developing and delivering mechanical designs to facilitate safe and compliant installations on site.

What you would do:

  • Designing in conjunction with fire strategy reports, local building regulations & planning authority requirements.
  • Carrying out site surveys of existing installations where applicable.
  • Producing heating/cooling (thermal modelling) and ventilation load calculations using industry software.
  • Sizing and selection of AHUs, FCUs, extract fans, pumps, chillers, ASHP, boilers, plate heat exchangers etc.
  • Producing above ground drainage calculations and sizing of drainage systems.
  • Sizing and selection of domestic hot and cold-water equipment (heaters, storage tanks etc).
  • Producing pipe and duct sizing calculations using industry software or other desktop spreadsheets.
  • Sizing and selection of firefighting sprinkler and pumping systems (preferred but not essential).
  • Producing stage reports & presentations.
  • Preparing Designers Risk Assessment and Mitigation Reports.
  • Detailing mechanical layouts & schematics for build.
  • Production of detailed design and survey reports.
