Job description

Our client based in Leeds are looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer due to a period of continued growth. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and improvement of mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to production. Working closely with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams, you will ensure designs are robust, cost-effective, and manufacturable at scale.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using 3D CAD software
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials
  • Take ownership of designs from concept, through prototyping and validation, to production release
  • Conduct design calculations, tolerance analysis, and basic FEA where required
  • Support manufacturing with design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles
  • Manage engineering changes, ensuring accurate documentation and configuration control
  • Work with suppliers to source components and resolve technical queries
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and internal quality procedures
Skills & Experience
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in a mechanical design role within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, CATIA)
  • Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings to relevant standardsGood understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, sheet metal, castings, etc.)
  • Knowledge of materials selection and mechanical principles
  • Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, production, and quality teams
