Job description
Mechanical Design Engineer - Rotating Machinery

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for solving complex engineering challenges? We're looking for an experienced engineer to join a forward‑thinking team designing large rotating components and mechanical systems for high‑performance industrial applications.

This is a hands‑on, technically challenging position where you'll take ownership of designs from concept through to manufacture, applying your expertise in stress analysis, FEA, and 3D CAD to deliver innovative, reliable solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for rotating machinery using NX, Inventor, and AutoCAD.
  • Produce accurate 3D models and detailed 2D drawings in line with manufacturing standards.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including stress analysis, FEA, and FMEA.
  • Lead and contribute to new product development and continuous design improvement projects.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation – including BoMs, IOM manuals, and material specifications.
  • Apply DFMA and Value Engineering (VAVE) principles to drive quality and cost efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure design integrity and performance.
  • Support testing, supplier visits, and customer meetings as required.
What We're Looking For
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical design, ideally involving large rotating equipment or assemblies.
  • Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software (NX, Inventor, AutoCAD).
  • Solid understanding of stress analysis and FEA tools.
  • Experience in FMEA and risk‑based design approaches.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and manufacturing best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously.
  • A collaborative, proactive engineer with strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) – essential.
  • HNC/HND candidates with strong practical experience also considered.
  • IEng registration desirable but not essential.
Why Join Us
  • Be part of a highly skilled, technically driven engineering team.
  • Work on challenging and high‑impact design projects.
  • Opportunity to influence design direction from concept through to manufacture.
  • Professional development and career progression fully supported.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
