Job summary

A leading facilities management company is seeking a skilled commissioning engineer to develop a commissioning team for data centre clients. You'll ensure that mechanical and electrical services operate according to design standards and supervise activities to guarantee safe, compliant testing. With a minimum of 5 years in commissioning within the data centre environment and technical expertise in Mechanical services, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with project management teams. Competitive salary up to £53,000 plus benefits, covering the South and Midlands.

Qualifications

  • Significant technical experience in Mechanical services, including pumps, valves, pipework, and HVAC systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional & technical experience as a commissioning engineer.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of electrical and standby power systems (preferable).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise EMCOR engineers and third parties for commissioning activities.
  • Write and review commissioning procedures.
  • Plan onsite commissioning activities.
  • Ensure all required test equipment is available and calibrated.
  • Lead onsite commissioning activities according to the project programme.

Role overview

Reporting to the National Commissioning manager, you will assist in developing and growing a commissioning team for our various Data Centre clients.

You will also ensure that a planned, programmed, auditable and structured approach to the commissioning process is carried out to the highest standards, making sure the installed M & E project services operate in accordance with the design intent.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise EMCOR engineers and third parties for commissioning activities to ensure safe, compliant, and accurate testing is achieved.
  • Write and Review Commissioning procedures and Safe System of Work for suitability of the activity.
  • Plan onsite commissioning activities including having an approved commissioning procedure, an approved Safe System of Work and co-ordination with other working parties including attending site progress meetings.
  • Ensure all required test equipment is available and within date calibration records.
  • Successfully deliver pre-start briefing to entire working party including client witnesses for the commissioning with all parties fully understand the testing requirements and their individual roles to achieve a safe and compliant commissioning activity.
  • Ensure the commissioning documents and safe systems of work are followed by all involved in the activity.
  • Witness and close out commissioning activities through to client acceptance or handover
  • Raise technical issues and seek guidance from the National commissioning manager or engineering support, when a system does not operate as expected or defects are found during the commissioning stage.
  • Lead onsite commissioning activities in accordance with the testing and project programme.
  • Where necessary conduct tests and inspections to verify that equipment and systems are installed correctly and function as per design.
  • To work closely with the Project Management Teams to ensure the requirements for the Commissioning phases are clearly communicated and understood
Qualifications

The position requires good communications skills to establish and communicate all systems required for successful execution of the Commissioning scope / plan. The candidate requires significant technical experience in Mechanical services, including pumps, valves, pipework and HVAC systems.

The role requires a minimum of 5 years of professional & technical experience as a commissioning engineer in the Data centre environment, being familiar with the commissioning process and different levels of testing throughout the project phases.

Ideally, but not essential to have good knowledge and understanding of electrical and standby power systems.
