Mechanical Commissioning & Installation Engineer

Sector: Biotech Systems and waste management

Location: Trowbridge HQ (must be within 1 hour's drive)

Travel: UK-wide, approx. 25% of your time

Salary: Up to £58,000 + travel expenses + company vehicle

Main Purpose of the Role

We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning & installation engineer ready for a new challenge, and you MUST HAVE previous experience of install and commissioning is a must.

This is completely new technology so sometimes the systems and installations won't go to plan and there is NO manual so you will need to figure out the issue and then write the manual and become an expert.

This role involves regular travel across the UK, with assignments ranging from 2 days to 3 weeks, requiring flexibility and adaptability to meet business demands.

You’ll support the build, installation, testing, commissioning, and servicing of a proprietary product range at client sites. You’ll also provide technical support, troubleshooting guidance, and training to customers and internal personnel. Additionally, you’ll contribute to the development of manuals, training materials, and support R&D and sales in testing new waste streams and designing innovative solutions.

Key Skills & Experience as an Mechanical Commissioning & Installation Engineer
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Experience with large machinery installation projects across various countries
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Technical background in electro‑mechanical systems
  • Experience creating and reviewing RAMs
  • Ability to read engineering drawings (P&IDs, schematics, manufacturing drawings)
  • Diagnostic and fault‑tracing skills
  • Familiarity with cloud‑based reporting and remote access systems
  • Understanding of process parameter setup

  • Install and commission proprietary systems and equipment
  • Build deep technical knowledge of the product range
  • Understand customer requirements and offer tailored recommendations
  • Train customer staff on‑site
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues
  • Produce detailed service reports and documentation
  • Create manuals for upgrades, commissioning, service, and builds
  • Test and evaluate software releases
  • Support sales and biologists in lab‑based product design and testing
  • Participate in design and safety reviews
  • Recommend design improvements to prevent future malfunctions
  • Advise global service engineers on upgrade kit installations
