A leading engineering firm in Bridgwater is seeking a JDO Mechanical Calculation Engineer to support design activities for the HPC project. This role includes managing piping discipline interfaces, conducting mechanical stress analyses, and ensuring compliance with nuclear industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, experience with FEA software, and strong analytical skills. You will work closely with installation contractors and various engineering disciplines to meet project milestones.
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.
At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and UK.
We are looking to recruit for the role of JDO Mechanical Calculation Engineer.
The Mechanical Calculation Engineer position focuses on supporting field design activities for the piping discipline within the HPC project. The role involves managing interfaces with multiple disciplines and resolving piping engineering issues encountered during on-site installation of pipework and associated supports. The engineer will ensure compliance with nuclear industry standards and project milestones while maintaining EPR-E procedures. The main tasks will be the following:
Gather input data, analyse/update hypothesis notes, and prepare detailed loading description reports for piping systems and supports.
Propose proportionate modifications when sizing criteria are not met.
Support and assist Equipment Department to verify calculation notes for various equipment such as Pumps, Valves, Flanges, Heat exchangers, Tanks, and Pressure Vessels.
Collaborate with installation contractors, civil works (CW) interfaces, and other disciplines.
