A local government authority in Thanet is seeking a Mechanic and Compliance Officer to ensure machinery compliance, oversee repairs, and maintain safe working practices. This role involves both mechanical work and compliance duties, directly impacting the maintenance of parks and open spaces. The Open Spaces Team work out of Dane Park Depot in Margate and we are now looking for a multi-skilled professional to join our team as Mechanic and Compliance Officer. The Open Spaces Team incorporates our grounds maintenance team, cemetery team, minor works team, playgrounds team and tree team. With a team of nearly 50 staff, we keep Thanet’s parks and open spaces safe and well maintained. This role is a key position in the Open Spaces Management Team, and ensures our machinery and equipment is well maintained; our waste is responsibly and compliantly stored and disposed of; and our staff are working safely.
As Mechanic and Compliance Officer, your job is to make sure the teams can do their jobs safely and compliantly. It is a wide ranging role which could be fixing a ride‑on mower to attending a Health & Safety Committee Meeting to go through accident statistics and compliance data. We are looking for an experienced professional, with excellent mechanical and compliance knowledge, who is equally at home with a spreadsheet as well with a spanner.
The work undertaken by the Open Spaces Team impacts Thanet residents everyday, from tree works to playgrounds to cutting grass and hedges in our parks. The teams on the ground rely on well‑maintained and compliant equipment to do their job safely and efficiently. You will also play an integral role within the Open Spaces Management Team as we continue to improve the service we provide to Thanet’s residents.
