Job description

The Trustees are looking to recruit a Curriculum lead for Maths with QTS/QTLS. Heywood Academy Teacher's Pay Scale + TLR2a (£3,527 pa) + SEN (£2,787 pa). Commencing September 2026.

Heywood Academy is one of the New Bridge Multi‑Academy Trust’s latest special schools, opening its doors to students in September 2025. The 75‑placement school offers tailored educational support for young people diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and/or who may experience Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) associated with ASC. The school delivers a broad and balanced curriculum that enables students from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 to access creative learning opportunities tailored to meet their individual needs.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver the KS3 maths national curriculum, ensuring it is broad and balanced for students with ASC/SLCN and mild/moderate learning difficulties.
  • Lead and develop the maths curriculum from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5.
  • Design and implement lessons that meet the diverse needs of students with autism and speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Use a wide range of communication tools to support students’ learning.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation through adaptive lessons.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the wider community.
  • Track and analyse student progress to raise attainment and achievement.
  • Provide mentoring and support to colleagues in maths curriculum planning.
Qualifications
  • Specific experience working with students with SEND and autism.

  • Up‑to‑date understanding of the National Curriculum at all ability levels; adapt learning to meet KS3‑KS5 learners.
  • Deliver Maths at entry level, GCSE (foundation and higher) and appropriate accreditations at KS4 and KS5.
  • Lead the Maths curriculum from KS3 to KS5.
  • Experience of enhancement of student progress gains and raising attainment and achievement in all students.
  • Experience of current assessment practice and use of data and student progress tracking.
  • Hardworking, organised and proactive in professional development.
  • Emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with complex needs.
