Position: Math Competition Problem Writer

Type: Independent Contractor

Compensation: $50–$85/hour

Location: Remote

Duration: ~2 months

Commitment: 20–40 hours/week

Role Responsibilities

  • Write original and advanced IMO-style mathematics problems to challenge frontier AI models.
  • Evaluate AI-generated solutions for correctness, clarity, and style.
  • Identify logical flaws, incomplete reasoning, or insufficiently rigorous proofs.
  • Provide clear, concise, and correct solutions with chain of thought reasoning.
  • Maintain extremely high standards of mathematical precision and problem difficulty.
  • Work independently and asynchronously to meet deadlines and improve AI model performance.

Qualifications

  • Highly proficient in writing and formatting documents using LaTeX.
  • Expertise across algebra, combinatorics, and number theory.
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex reasoning in written form.
  • Rigorous attention to detail in verifying solutions.
  • Independent, reliable, and disciplined work style.

Preferred

  • Experience as a problem writer, coach, selection committee member, or medalist (gold, silver, bronze).
  • Participation in IMO, IMO TST, RMM, USAMO, APMO, IMC, or EGMO.

Start Date

  • Rolling start dates; setup typically within 1–2 days of approval.

Compensation & Legal

  • Open to contributors worldwide (English proficiency required).
  • Independent contractor arrangement through Mercor.
  • Weekly payments via Stripe Connect.
