Job summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is seeking a compassionate Maternity Support Worker to join the Midwifery team on a full-time basis at our Manchester campuses. You will assist with patient care, support administration, and help ensure a clean, safe environment for mothers and babies.

Role includes performing blood tests, using IT systems like HIVE, and ongoing training with opportunities to progress to Band 3 AfC as part of our development programme.

Qualifications

• Holds National Care Certificate or equivalent.
• Level 2 Apprenticeship in health care or equivalent.
• Completes Trust Clinical Support Worker Development Programme to progress to Band 3 AfC.
• Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Midwifery team under supervision to deliver high quality patient care.
• Perform blood tests on mothers and babies as directed.
• Support midwives with administrative tasks (e.g., ordering blood tests).
• Clean and maintain the environment, restock equipment, and use IT systems including HIVE.
• Communicate with women, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team in a compassionate manner.
• Engage in the Support Worker Development Programme and progression opportunities.

You’ll communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner with patients, relatives, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team

Main duties of the job

Being supervised by Registered Midwives & within Trust guidelines & protocols, you’ll assist the Midwifery team in delivering the excellent standard of patient care that you would expect for yourself and your loved ones.

You will also be required to perform blood tests on both Mothers and babies.

You will also be expected to support the midwives with administration eg: ordering blood tests

The role will also include cleaning and maintaining the environment , restocking and ordering equipment, utilizing IT systems including the use of HIVE

You will have excellent interpersonal skills as you will be communicating with women on the phone and working closely with the women and their families .

If you are new to working in healthcare, you’ll be supported to develop yourself through our Support Worker Development Programme for Maternity Support Workers. The great news is, the completion of this Programme will give you the opportunity to progress into a Band 3 Maternity Support Worker role.

If you’re an experienced Maternity Support Worker seeking a new opportunity, you’ll undertake a skills analysis to ensure you meet the requirements of the role. If there are gaps in your knowledge, you’ll be supported to access relevant clinical modules to support your progression to a Band 3 post.

Evidence of prior learning will be reviewed & considered.

The Costs for a DBS

At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), roles that require a DBS check are subject to a cost recovery policy. This means that the cost of submitting and processing a DBS application if you are successful and join us, will be deducted from your salary within the first three months of employment. If, however, you withdraw from a conditional offer after the DBS process has begun, you will still be liable for the cost incurred.

Qualifications

• Holds National Care Certificate or be willing to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of starting.
• Level 2 Apprenticeship in health care OR Gain equivalent knowledge and skill undertaking the Trust Clinical Support Worker Development Programme.
• On completion of the Trust Clinical Support Worker Development Programme demonstrating evidence of clinical knowledge, skill and competency the worker will move to band 3 AfC.
• Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or education equivalent.

Knowledge

• Experience working in a healthcare, social care organisation/setting or service industry requiring people contact.
• Experience of working within a health care or maternity care environment.

Skills

• Good communication skills (written and verbal).
• Able to work as a team.
• Able to carry out well defined routine tasks.
• Able to work on own initiative, following direction/supervision by a Registered Healthcare Practitioner.
• Able to relate well with patients/relatives/visitors/ Colleagues/the multi-disciplinary team and wider Trust staff.
