Job description

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an experience and passionate midwife to step into the role of Maternity Matron at East Surrey Hospital, part of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The Women and Child Health (WACH) division at Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust comprises maternity, gynaecology inpatient and outpatient services, a Level 2 NICU, and a paediatric ward. Last year, the maternity team supported around 4,200 births, making it one of the busiest units in the region. The service provides comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care delivered by a dedicated team of midwives, support workers, obstetricians, gynaecologists, and anaesthetic staff.

This is a key leadership position within our maternity service, providing visible, compassionate, and proactive leadership across our postnatal ward (Burstow),Examination of the New-born Team, the Infant Feeding Team, and the Evergreen Elective Caesarean Section Pathway. You will play a vital role in ensuring women, birthing people, and their families receive the highest standard of care and an exceptional postnatal experience.

This is a full-time, five-day-a-week role, including an on-call commitment and some weekend working. It is ideally suited to a confident and experienced midwife with substantial leadership experience at Band 7 or above, proven operational management skills, and a genuine passion for improving outcomes and experiences for families and staff alike.
