Job description

This post attracts individuals who are new to care. You will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within 6 months upon successful completion of all required competencies; until then, you will be placed at a Band 2 salary. At Whipps Cross we are a friendly and forward thinking team who nurture our staff so that they can be the best version of themselves. This role enables you to see all aspects of maternity care from booking a new pregnancy through to the postnatal period. You will work alongside passionate Midwives whilst building rapport with women and their families and obtaining real job satisfaction.

We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic Maternity Assistants to join our team of Community Midwives at Bart's Health, Whipps Cross Hospital. We provide Maternity Services to approximately 4900 women a year and accommodate our women in very modern up to date facilities. We have a co-located midwifery-led unit and are working towards integration of the community midwifery services.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with care of women under the direction and supervision of Midwifery trained staff in the hospital and community.
  • With the support of the midwifery team, support women in pregnancy and postnatal period, helping them make healthy choices for themselves and their babies.
  • Carry out assigned tasks involving direct care of mothers and their babies under the general supervision of the midwife.
  • Support the midwife in providing antenatal and postnatal support to individual mothers and small groups of women.
  • May be expected to be rotated to all areas within maternity with some weekend and evening commitments as required by the service.
Other Requirements
  • Due to government threshold guidelines, the Trust is unable to provide sponsorship for this role.
  • Candidates will be required to complete an online literacy and numeracy test; only those who pass will be invited to a formal interview.
