SME Careers, a fast-growing AI Data Services company, seeks a Materials Science Expert (SME) to review AI-generated content and create high-quality reference material. This remote hourly contractor role requires evaluating accuracy, engineering reasoning, terminology, and step-by-step explanations while providing precise written feedback.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science or a related field.
• Strong professional English proficiency (C1+), with ability to provide detailed feedback.
• 3+ years of materials science research, engineering, lab work, teaching, or technical writing.
• Deep understanding of structure–property relationships, crystal structures, phase diagrams, and characterization.
• Ability to assess explanations, calculations, diagrams, and interpretations for accuracy and clarity.
• Excellent attention to detail in units, terminology, test methods, and design tradeoffs.
• Experience with AI data training, annotation, or rubric-based evaluation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI training content: prompts and gold-standard materials science answers across metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, and more.
• Evaluate AI outputs to improve accuracy, engineering logic, terminology, and structure–property reasoning.
• Identify hallucinated claims, incorrect processing, unsafe recommendations, and verify reliability across use cases.
