Job summary

Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains Ltd is seeking a Materials Engineering Placement Student to work with specialist engineers on how structures relate to material properties, supporting performance and manufacturability for the Hybrid Power Unit.

The role offers a state‑of‑the‑art Technology Centre environment with opportunities to develop materials technologies and see ideas race in F1, complemented by a range of benefits and a collaborative engineering culture.

Qualifications

• Curious, tenacious and driven individuals who thrive in a fast paced environment.
• On track to achieve a 2.1 degree, or above, in Materials Engineering / Metallurgy or related degree.
• Strong academic background in maths/sciences (A-Levels or equivalent).
• Excellent understanding of engineering first principles and practical hands‑on experience.

Job description

The Role

• As a Materials Engineering Placement Student you will have the opportunity to play a key role within a team of specialist engineers, working on understanding the relationship between the structures we need to create, and the properties of a material to support performance and manufacturing feasibility.
• You’ll work to develop the key materials technologies enabling continued performance and durability development of the Hybrid Power Unit.
• You will have the autonomy to actively contribute by managing your own materials research and development project work, enhancing your materials characterisation skills with hands‑on access to a wide variety of equipment.

What do we need from you?

• To be on track to achieve a 2.1 degree, or above, in a relevant Materials Engineering / Metallurgy or related degree
• A strong academic background in relevant A-Level disciplines, for example maths or sciences (or equivalent qualification)
• An excellent understanding of engineering first principles
• Practical, “hands‑on” experience to complement your academic studies
• Excellent communication skills
• Self‑motivated, thorough engineers that are adaptable, creative and innovative with a strong desire to solve problems
• The courage to challenge and desire to be challenged, to expand your technical knowledge and skills
