Job summary

Eurofins PSS is seeking a Material Scientist to provide on-site analytical support at the Bristol Myers Squibb Moreton facility in the Wirral. You will perform analyses on raw materials, drug substances, and finished products, delivering accurate results within agreed timescales.

The role requires a strong background in pharmaceutical materials, ability to troubleshoot analytical challenges, and collaboration with client teams to ensure data integrity and quality.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Pharmacy or related science required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of pharmaceutical materials testing.
  • Experience with analytical equipment in Material Science helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine physical and analytical testing for development studies.
  • Manage receipt, storage, and disposal of development samples.
  • Support new equipment introductions and implementation across the area.
  • Contribute to project teams by summarising data and interpreting results.
  • Work independently, troubleshoot, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders and maintain documentation.

Job Description

Eurofins PSS is recruiting for a Material Scientist to provide on‑site analytical support as a Eurofins Managed PSS Scientist, based at the Bristol Myers Squibb Moreton facility in the Wirral.

This position is a fully employed Analytical Scientist by Eurofins PSS, supportingservices delivered to our client on their site.

This role is not employment with Bristol Myers Squibb and Bristol Myers Squibb does not manage the recruitment or employment terms for this position.

This is a 1 year, fixed term contract, working a flexible 35 hour week, Monday - Friday.

As an Material Scientist your role will be to perform analysis of pharmaceutical raw materials, drug substance, and finished product and produce accurate results within an acceptable timeframe.

Job Responsibilities that you be covering:

  • You will perform routine and non‑routine physical and analytical testing using traditional and modern techniques to support investigational studies.
  • You will manage the receipt, storage, dispensing, and disposal of development samples within the Development Store.
  • You will support the introduction and effective implementation of new equipment across the functional area.
  • You will contribute to project teams by providing protocol feedback, summarising data, and offering initial interpretation in line with agreed timelines.
  • You will take initiative, work independently, solve analytical challenges, learn new processes quickly, share expertise, and drive continuous improvement while building strong working relationships.
  • You will communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders, maintain accurate documentation, and deliver effective presentations when required.
Qualifications

What skills, qualifications and experiences you will hold as an Material Scientist:

  • A Degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry is required.
  • A fundamental knowledge of material science testing in respect of pharmaceutical actives and excipients and a knowledge of pharmaceuticalmanufacturing is would be advantageous.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting analytical equipment related to Material Science, and Drug Product manufacture would be advantageous.
  • Experience of Particle size analysis, morphologyand BET for surface area testing would be highly advantageous as well as understanding in powder flow and microscopy.
  • Proficient in using electronic media, including MS Office and experience in use of electronic laboratory notebooks would be of advantage.
  • Strong practical and analytical skills in a laboratory setting is required.
  • Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot is essential.
  • Collaborative, networking and interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills is essential.
  • Able to document work clearly and concisely, as well as understand and describe data / findings importance to others.
  • Ability to work safely and comply with key quality systems to ensure data integrity.
  • Good organisational and planning skills, and an ability to deliver to agreed time and quality.
  • Passionate about quality and customer service.
